This chair provides a perfect, stylish place to read your paper. Carved in limed mango wood, finished with a white washed paint and upholstered with a unique vintage Indian Sari.

Dimensions

93cm (H) x 71cm (W) x 74cm (D)

Khanta chairs are upholstered in vintage Indian Saris, finished with traditional "Kantha" hand stitching. Each Sari is unique, and as they are vintage items, they may have patches and slight imperfections, which add to their charm.

Kantha is still the most popular form of embroidery practised by rural women in India. The traditional form of Kantha embroidery was done with soft dhotis and saris, with a simple running stitch along the edges. Depending on the use of the finished product they were known as Lepkantha or Sujni Kantha. The embroidered cloth has many uses including women's shawls and covers for mirrors, boxes, and pillows. In the best examples, the entire cloth is covered with running stitches, employing beautiful motifs of flowers, animals birds and geometrical shapes, as well as themes from everyday activities.

Care instructions

As these pieces are upholstered in genuine vintage fabrics, small marks, stains or patches areas are often encountered, and should be considered as an inherent part of the piece. As the fabrics can be up to 40 years old, extreme care should be taken with cleaning. We recommend you consult an experience upholstery professional, as the fabric on each chair is different in composition and age.
